BLUES SCOTLAND (SCIO)

Blues Scotland is a fledgling Scottish charity that deals with Blues music and the derivatives thereof.

The charity aims to eventually provide or assist with affordable and accessible workshops, concerts, shows and festivals in Scotland (locally and nationally) featuring bands and performers of all skill levels from in and around the Blues genre.

Blues Scotland is currently working on providing bi-monthly, weekend-based Community Blues music workshops in Falkirk for all skill levels of player (each workshop will be 'single instrument specific' - ie first one guitar, second one drums etc) called 'The Blues Platform' - these will be affordable, accessible and free of charge wherever possible for all participants. To give local musicians a chance to practice what they've learned these can tie easily into monthly live community workshops run by Falkirk BluesClub called 'The Falkirk Live Blues Platform' - this will be aimed at the Falkirk community where players of ages 16 or over of all sexes and abilities will have the opportunity to try their skills in a live environment with a House band of accomplished musicians. The 'Live Platform' is designed to allow musicians to try out any skills they may already posses, to learn new skills and knowledge and to gain the invaluable experience of musical contact with others by playing live with a skilled band.

The organisation will actively seek to work with established Music Festivals, Blues Clubs and other societies and organisations to help further the Blues music genre (and its spin-offs) in Scotland.

One aim of Blues Scotland is that some of the temporarily successful Festivals and events of the past that have since faded can have new life breathed into them by Blues Scotland supplying and directing the correct expertise and assistance.

The organisation has plans for a Blues symposium to be held in 2020 where views on the genre (current state and direction etc) can be aired and discussed by musicians, public or anyone with an interest (vested or otherwise) in Blues music. It is hoped that the symposium would run bi-annually.
